LIFELONG Rangers fan David Healy welcomed the one-year deal handed to him by Ally McCoist in June 2011, an extension to the six-month contract he had initially signed at Ibrox after leaving English Premier League side Sunderland.
Northern Ireland's record goal-scorer at international level, netting 35 times, never hid his affection for the Gers and always wanted to play for his boyhood heroes.
Healy began his career at Old Trafford in 1999 and played twice for the Red Devils.
He was initially loaned to Port Vale, and then Preston North End, where the deal became a permanent £1.5million agreement in 2000.
The little striker did well at Deepdale, scoring over 40 goals during his time there.
After two loan spells at Norwich City, then bossed by former Northern Ireland manager Nigel Worthington, Healy moved to Leeds United for £650,000 in 2004.
He was joint top scorer twice at Elland Road, but when Leeds fell out of the Championship in 2007, he moved to Fulham for a reported £1.5millon.
However, latterly at Craven Cottage he found it hard to get into the side under Roy Hodgson.
Ricky Sbragia took Healy to Sunderland in 2008, but opportunities were again limited when Steve Bruce took over in the North East.
Prior to joining Rangers in January 2011, the MBE holder had spent time on loan at Ipswich Town and Doncaster Rovers.
Notably, Healy set a remarkable record of 13 goals in 11 games on duty for Northern Ireland during 2008 European Championship qualifying - the best ever in the history of the competition.
2010/11
Within months of joining the Light Blues, Healy had bagged a goal on his debut against Motherwell, collected a League Cup winner's medal, and been part of a heroic title-clinching side - an excellent start to life at Ibrox.
